Our 2025 Climate Care Book Club Reading List

The sun is out for the first time in weeks, the finches in their deep reds and yellows are dancing around the bird feeder as our two cats watch through the window. The fresh snows melts under the noon-day rays. It is peaceful for the moment and I am grateful.

As the mornings and evenings get slightly brighter and the first full moon of the year waxes, I’m thrilled to share with you our climate care book club’s reading plan for 2025.

This is an intentional selection of climate books that will support us through the energies of the seasons and hopefully our lives as well.

This Winter we are starting the year gently by reading The Serviceberry: Abundance & Reciprocity in the Natural World by the incredible Robin Wall Kimmerer. We will be discussing this sweet, short and beautiful book and explore the themes of gratitude and reciprocity on Wednesday February 5th and Wednesday March 5th at 8pm ET. A gentle balm to support our wintering bodies and spirits.

In the Spring, as the land around us awakes, creatures emerge from their winter naps and the planting of seeds begins we will be reading Doppelganger: A trip into the Mirror World by Naomi Klein and People, Power, Change: Organizing for Democratic Renewal by Marshall Ganz to support planting our own seeds for change and awakening. So, mark your calendars for Wednesday April 2nd and Wednesday May 14th (I’m away the 7th) at 8pm ET we will discuss these ideas, themes and strategies. Stay tuned for an invite to an in-person retreat chez moi in Thornbury, Ontario in late May or early June, dates TBC.

This Summer, we have a selection of climate fiction/cottage reads for us to explore including Greenwood by Michael Christie, Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands by Kate Beaton (a graphic novel) and The Ministry for the Future: by Kim Stanley Robinson.

Finally, in the Fall, we harvest the ideas, inspirations and learnings we planted in the spring and summer and continue to take action by reading It’s not that Radical: Climate Action to Transform our World – by Michaela Loach.

My invitation is to mark your calendars for the first Wednesday night of the month at 8pm ET, order your books and begin reading. Each month, through my newsletter I’ll share some additional podcasts, poetry and articles related to the seasonal themes, but these authors and books will be the main structure for the year. If you’d like to subscribe to my monthly newsletter, please enter your email address below.

I hope sharing these titles in advance support your planning and engagement with the book club in 2025. If you have any questions, ideas or offerings, please send me an email.

Wishing all of us the courage, care and commitment to the work of self care, community care and climate care in the year ahead.

Warmly,

Megan
